Sweet Child Solos began as an evening event at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE). Guitarists performed instrumental covers of Sweet Child O' Mine by Guns N' Roses in front of a green-screen wall painting, with paper confetti covering the gallery floor.
Video of the performances was subsequently projected on two screens. One placed the guitarist over a still showing flag-draped military caskets being returned from Afghanistan; the other used a still of the site of an airstrike that killed Afghan civilians. The work connects musical performance, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and the production of archival documentation.
